3 Bears of Central Park Zoo
Meet the three Grizzlies at Central Park Zoo.
Today, three grizzly bears live at the Central Park Zoo; Treena, Luna, and Amber.
All three grizzlies are female. Amber and Luna are siblings, while Treena is unrelated. After being orphaned as cubs in Montana, rangers from the Wildlife Conservation Society rescued the cubs and brought them to the Bronx Zoo in 2013 where they received their initial care.
The orphaned cubs were too young to survive on their own and could not be released into the wild. They were living in the Bronx until May 2022 when they moved to the Central Park Zoo.
Upon arrival, the bears quickly acclimated to their new home and can now be seen taking full advantage of the exhibit – climbing on the rocks, digging in the dirt, and wading in the stream and pools.
The previous grizzly bears, Betty and Veronica, passed away in 2021 and 2020, respectively from age. (They were rescued in 1995).
