Ornamental grass is an important part of the Conservatory Garden's visual appeal. The varying colors and heights of the different types of ornamental grass are used in the Garden to provide ground cover and contrast to the flowers that fill its beds. Ornamental grasses are part of the Cyperaceae, Juncacaeae, Poaceae, and Restionaceae families. Because these grasses are easy to maintain, grow even in conditions in which other plants cannot survive, and are tolerant of many seasons, they are an ideal choice to complement the daffodils, roses, lilacs, and other flowers in the garden.
