Morningside Park is a large park on the northern tip of Manhattan, and just one block west of where Central Park ends. It dominates the landscape in Morningside Heights and Harlem, encompassing nearly 30 acres of land. Morningside Park is one of the city's most visually dramatic parks, boasting cliffs, streams and waterfalls. The park was originally conceived as a way to deal with the difficulty of building over such a diverse space, and was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux, the same designers who created Central Park.
Morningside Park has many visitor amenities, including a designated barbecue area at 121st Street. There are picnic tables and wide open grassy spaces available for visitors to sit and enjoy lunch throughout the park. Dog owners can enjoy the park's dog run, which is located at 114th Street.
Sports courts are abundant at this park. Visitors can enjoy handball courts, basketball courts and baseball fields, as well as many running and walking paths.
There is also a thriving seasonal Farmer's Market at 110th and Manhattan Ave from May to December.
