Grey Shot Arch
Greyshot Arch stands a short distance from Merchant's Gate at Columbus Circle.
Greyshot Arch is nestled within Central Park on Central Park West, situated between 61st and 62nd Streets. As part of a series of stone and brick arches in the southern section of Central Park, it was designed to facilitate the passage of busy carriage drives over pedestrian paths and to link various features and landscapes within this densely populated area.
This architectural gem, was constructed by Vaux in the year 1860. Composed of white-gray gneiss, the arch exudes an elegant aesthetic, with its balustrade expertly fashioned from New Brunswick sandstone and adorned with exquisite fleur-de-lis carvings.
