Daylilies are part of the Xanthorrhoeaceae family of flowers. These plants are popular in the Conservatory Garden because in addition to their brilliant colors, they are also very adaptable. Because they are perennials, they require relatively little maintenance to appear every year in the spring. They can grow in shade or light, and in many different types of soil. Daylilies can grow in almost any color, including purple, pink, red, yellow, and white. In the Conservatory Garden, they can be found in a stunning bold orange. Unlike other flowers in the Garden, each daylily blooms for only 24 hours. It dies at the end of the day and is replaced the next morning by a new flower.
