Halloween Pumpkin Flotilla
Costumes are encouraged at this family-friendly Halloween event.
Location: Charles A. Dana Center on the Harlem Meer Date: pre-Halloween
Each year, typically just a day or two prior to Halloween, Central Park hosts a Halloween celebration on the Harlem Meer that's perfect for the entire family.
There are a variety of children's activities, including crafting, storytelling, scavenger hunts, and a spirited Halloween parade.
At twilight, a procession of illuminated jack-o'-lanterns is guided across the Harlem Meer by a whimsical witch or mischievous goblin.
Check the event page for up-to-date information, once it is announced. Don't forget to come dressed in your spookiest attire!
You can even submit your own carved creation by following some guidelines listed below.
Pumpkin Carving:
- Bring your pumpking to the Charles A. Dana Center between 4:00 and 5:30 pm, to enter it in the procession.
- Do not use any decorations that will pollute the Meer. This includes paper, food dye, paint, glitter, or plastic. It's carving skills that are called for here.
- Choose a pumpkin that is average size; about the size of a soccer ball or 8 pounds before it is carved. KEEP the top and bring it with you!
- Floats and illumination will be provided by staff.
- You can retrieve your pumpkin at the conclusion of the flotilla at about 6:45 pm from the Harlem Meer beach near Fifth Avenue and East 108th Street.
