At around 10:15 on Sunday morning, a dog walker jumped into Harlem Meer to rescue her own dog who broke away from the pack of four other dogs she was walking. The dog ran onto the thin ice of the lake and fell into the frigid water. The woman was able to push the dog out of the water, at which point someone grabbed the dog from the ice. Police then threw the woman a life ring. The woman refused medical treatment.
Signs around the lake at Central Park North and Lennox Avenue warn of ice.
