The Parks department announced Thursday that it was calling off its annual Winter Jam, scheduled for Feb. 4 in Prospect Park, citing unseasonably warm temperatures.
“It is simply too warm to make snow,” the message read, “and the long-range weather forecasts and current ground temperatures make it extremely unlikely that snow could be made.” Last year the gathering featured ski and snowboard lessons and a winter market.
For the Winter Jam in 2010, held in Central Park, workers were called in from the Olympic coldbed of Lake Placid, N.Y., to blanket the area near the Bandshell with artificial flakes.
