Two Bronx men taking pictures yesterday afternoon on the iced over Central Park pond fell through and had to be rescued. Ayang Nayamaa and Heyward Latif Ali said they were not aware they were standing in the middle of the pond at the south end of the park near 59th Street and 6th Avenue until the ice began to crack beneath their feet. Lafit Ali was able to scramble out, but Nayamaa remained in the frigid water struggling for fifteen minutes before he and a police officer who rushed to help him were eventually pulled out by an FDNY wetsuit-clad rescue worker. Neither Lafit Ali, Nayamaa, nor the rescue workers sustained any serious injuries. The men, 19 and 20, were ticketed for "unlawful ice activity".
