Dec 9, 2023 - The Origami Holiday Tree is back at the Museum of Natural History, and this year it was inspired by the museum's featured exhibition: The Secret World of Elephants.
The 13-foot tree features garlands and origami models of elephants in many different shapes, shades and sizes, located on, around, under, and beside the tree. There is also an elephant quilt, adding an additional layer of depth to the installation.
There are more than 1,000 origami pieces decorating the tree, consisting of intricately designed models of elephants and elephant relatives, as well as other creatures too from other museum exhibits like the Blue Whale and Tyrannosaurus rex.
All are hand-folded paper models created by local, national, and international origami artists.
The tree will remain up through January 15, 2024, in the Ellen V. Futter gallery, on the first floor.
