Before there was the Great Lawn in Central Park, The York Hill Reservoir stood in its place from 1842 until Olmstead and Vaux had it decommissioned in 1931.
Although its giant rectangular structure did not fit the new design for the park, pieces of it can still be seen today. There is even a plaque for it located by the Delacorte Theater, and it lines the entrance hall of the Central Park precinct.
