Quidditch in Central Park.
While these broomsticks don't really give a player flight, the intensity of the Muggle Quidditch game in Central Park was just as high as any from the Harry Potter book series.
Bronx Science High School lost 50-30 against Lenox High School from Lenox, Massachusetts.
Similar to soccer, several dozen spectators came to watch the teams square off in Central Park during the exhibition game over Memorial Day Weekend.
Although Quidditch, invented by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, was originally intended to be a fictional game, it has come to life for Muggles - non-magical humans - with the advent of the the Middlebury College team in 2005. Currently, more than 150 colleges and 100 high schools throughout the United States have a team.
The rules are obviously a bit different without winged and flying snitches and magical brooms, but the premise is the same: get the quaffle -in this case, a volleyball - through the hoop to score points.
According to Alex Benepe, commissioner of the International Quidditch Association, the game was brought to Central Park to promote the sport and raise awareness of its existence outside of the fictional world of Harry Potter.
