newyorkdailynews.com writes that there are hundreds of movies featuring scenes of the 843-acre park, some shot as early as 1908. They report on seven movies that were partially shot in Cental Park with some of the finest features shot in Manhattan’s biggest park.
In the original version of the “Manchurian Candidate”, there is a scene shot at the Bethesda Terrace that shows Frank Sinatra’s character as he watches Laurence Harvey’s brainwashed rich boy character being compelled to jump in the lake at Central Park. In “When Harry Met Sally”, the film offers plenty of New York footage and Central Park makes many appearances. It’s where Harry and Sally go on long walks together, where Harry goes power-walking (it is an ’80s movie, after all) and where Sally has lunch with her friends. It’s even in the background during a scene at the Met.
In “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”, where most of the movie’s exterior shots are filmed in the city, including a pivotal scene set by the Central Park Bandshell. It’s the devastating moment when Paul — one of her possible love interests — confronts Doc Golightly and finds out that Holly is really a country girl who was married off to a much older man at 13.
