Central Park offers adult swimmers their own quite space through its Lap Swim Program at Lasker Pool. The program offers roped-off lanes in an otherwise empty pool during Early Bird sessions from 7 - 8:30 a.m., and Night Owl sessions from 7 p.m. to dusk.
Participants who swim at least 25 miles by August 30 receive a T-shirt with either the logo of the Early Birds or the Night Owls. The three participants who swim the most miles from each park pool's sessions by August 9 will compete for a medal in an intrapool competition. Last year, 11,990 people registered for the program's 30th anniversary.
The program attracts a wide array of participants who turn out for the health benefits, the social aspect and the beautiful surroundings.
