Meredith Bergmann's monument design featuring three pioneers in the fight for women's rights - Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Sojourner Truth - was recently chosen by the Public Design Commission over 90 other competing submissions.
Sojourner Truth, an escaped slave and abolitionist, was recently added to the sculpture after debates and criticism that African American suffragists were initially excluded.
The statue represents revolutionary change in our society, fought for through the collaboration of women from different races, religions and economic status.
$1.5 million was raised to create and maintain the new monument and an associated educational program.
