This week, 4,500 runners brought in the New Year at Central Park with the 35th annual four-mile New York Road Runners' Midnight Run. Finishing in first place in the men's division, with a time of 18:45 was 28-year old Cole Atkins. Amanda Winslow, 23, finished first in the women's division with a time of 21:31.
"It means a lot to me [to win]. It was such a fun race," explained Winslow. "Every New Year’s I thought it would be so fun to be out running a race, unlike most people who would rather be doing something else. I’m really glad I finally had the chance to do that and it was way more fun. So much energy."
A larger crowd gathered for the pre-race dance party and costume contest at the Central Park Bandshell, which featured a DJ and live band playing top 40 dance hits. Attendees were also treated to a fireworks display at midnight and free samples of Breakfast on the Go Yogurt Bites from race sponsor Emerald Nuts.
