The Gotham Coyote Project has been studying the urban coyote since 2010. Researchers, educators and high school students work together to learn about NYC coyotes and how they may be changing to adapt to the city. You can report a coyote sighting on the home page of their site.
Some tips on co-existing with coyotes in NYC from the Parks Department include: Do NOT feed coyotes, appreciate them from a distance, protect your pets (the coyotes are known to eat raccoons, squirrels and birds), and keep coyotes wary of you so they do not learn to relax around people.
