On July 20th, 1969 approximately 8,000 New Yorkers dressed in all white held a “celestial-celebration” in Central Park in anticipation of Neil Armstrong’s 10:56 PM landing on the moon. Three 9’ X 12’ screens showed a viewing of the landing across every major network.
This event, which was described as “a cross between a carnival and a vigil” became known as “The Moon-In.”
