Timeout.com originally posted this article last May, but with spring just around the corner, it is worth taking a look at the top 25 playgrounds in NYC, they listed. They wrote, that when they think of NYC landmarks, one might first think of Lady Liberty or the Empire State Building—for kids, playgrounds are as much (if not equally) a warm weather priority.
In the article they rounded up their favorite 25 playgrounds and ranked them in order of excellence. Included in that list are 4 from Central Park. At #17 the recently renovated East 72nd Street Playground, located off of Fifth Avenue. They compare the playground to a sandy beach, since so much of it is filled with sand. At #12 is Heckscher playground, which is the oldest playground in Central Park. #9 Ancient Playground, located next to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, on 84th Street and Fifth Avenue. Last on the list at #7 is the Billy Johnson Playground, located at 67th Street off of Fifth Avenue.
