The marathon's route through Central Park
Fifty-four degree weather greeted the record number of runners in the 2010 NYC Half-Marathon. Usually held in the heat of the summer months, this was the first time the event, which started on East Drive in Central Park near 95th Street, took place in March. From there the 11,000-plus runners made a full clockwise loop through the paths and trails of the park until exiting at 7th Avenue towards Times Square and further south through the streets of NYC until ending by Chambers Street.
For the men, Peter Kamais of Kenya, took first place with an uncontested time of 59 minutes and 53 seconds. For the female runners, victory went to Britain’s Mara Yamauchi who crossed the finish line in one hour, nine minutes and 25 seconds.
