The José Martí (1853-1895) monument is one of three tributes to Latin American heroes, located at the Avenue of the Americas entrance to Central Park.
Created by Anna Hyatt Huntington in 1959 and installed in the park in 1965, the statue illustrates the moment that the Cuban patriot was mortally wounded in a battle against the Spanish royalist army.
A second copy of this statue can be found in the plaza of the Museo de la Revolución in Havana (installed in 2018).
