The Head and the Heart
The Head and the Heart is a pure Americana indie folk band, hailing from Seattle. They were formed in the summer of 2009 by Josiah Johnson (vocals, guitar, percussion) and Jonathan Russell (vocals, guitar, percussion) – the band also includes Charity Rose Thielen (violin, guitar, vocals), Chris Zasche (bass), Kenny Hensley (piano), and Tyler Williams (drums). As they began playing locally, self-burned copies of their debut album The Head and the Heart (in handmade denim sleeves) were being sold at shows. Upon signing with Sub Pop, the record was remastered and released in 2011 (and peaked at #110 on the Billboard 200 album chart). The band then toured throughout the United States and Europe, opening for Vampire Weekend, Dave Matthews, Death Cab For Cutie, and many other top indie bands, as well as headlining their own shows. In this same year, Seattle’s City Arts Magazine named them “Seattle’s Best New Band,” and they made their network TV debut on Conan. The band’s second album Let’s Be Stillwas released in 2013, with the track “Shake” receiving tons of radio play, along with “Homecoming Heroes” and “Another Story.” The album reached number 10 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. In 2016 the band released their third studio album Signs of Light, featuring the hit single “All We Ever Knew.”
