Summer Chess, July
to
If you are a great chess player looking to learn more, or a beginner hoping to understand the basics of the classic board game, head to Summer Chess at the Chess and Checkers House in Central Park on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 10 AM.
Located at 65th Street just west of the Dairy, there are 24 outdoor chess and checker tables that will be used for play with 30 simultaneous (Simul) participants. These players will be selected at a first come, first serve basis, so it is recommended that interested players come a little early to guarantee their spot. This type of play is only open to players with an official rating of 1,000 or better.
If you are still interested in chess but do not qualify, there is still plenty for you to do at Summer Chess. Grandmaster Michale Rohde will teach the secrets of the game to help you improve and practice your skills.
Note: Any Simul spots unclaimed by a participant with the appropriate rating at the close of registration will be filled on a first-come first-served basis by rated and recreational players of all abilities. Boards and pieces are available to borrow at the Chess and Checkers House for anyone not participating in the Simul.
