Climb the Peaks of Central Park
to
This free event is sponsored by the Urban Park Rangers and leads participants from the southern end of Central Park all the way to its most northern point. It will take place on Sunday, May 16th, 2010.
According to the Department of Parks & Recreation, millions of years ago, Central Park was covered with large mountains that could dwarf the Himalayas. Presently that is far from the truth, with the highest point in the park standing in at 140 feet at Summit Rock. But although these ancient peaks are gone, there is still fun terrain to be explored.
The hike starts at the Doris Freedman Plaza at 60th Street and 5th Avenue at 11am and will conclude a few hours later at the Dana Discovery Center at 110th Street. The hike will be advanced and fast-paced so bring your hiking boots along.
