Tamarins
Golden lion-headed tamarin (Leontopithecus chrysopygus)

Where found : Atlantic coast of Brazil. At the CPZ, please visit our upstairs Mezzanine level to get a closer look at these small monkeys, which truly do have manes resembling lions. These beauties were discovered in Brazil only as recently as 1990!
Diet : Insects, grubs, and other food found in tree holes and crevices.
Life span : Early 20’s in captivity.
Threats : Reduced habitat, fires, hunting, and pet trade.
Cotton-top tamarin (Saguinus oedipus)
Where found : Northwestern Columbia. These small monkeys may be found upstairs in the Tropic building on the Mezzanine level or outside the same building in the hexagonal window.
Diet : Fruit, vegetation, insects, small lizards, and eggs.
Length : Up to 10 inches.
Height : Up to 16 inches.
Weight : Up to 1 lb.
Life span : Early 20’s in captivity.
Silvery marmoset (Callithrix argentata)
Where found : Southern Central America and northern South America.
Diet : Sap and gum of trees, fruit, insects, and leaves.
Description : Silvery white to dark brown. Because of their dark tails, silvery marmosets are also called black-tailed marmosets. The young are dark furred and become whiter with age.
